Guide
A 750km, cross-country trip through Ibadan, Ilorin and Lokoja needs more planning than a same-city booking. Here's what to sort out before departure day.
The Lagos to Abuja route is one of the longer intercity trips groups book — roughly 750km, 10 to 13 hours depending on traffic, and enough distance that planning ahead makes a real difference to how the day goes.
Most of the drive time is fixed, but traffic isn't. Departing early — ideally before 6am — keeps the group ahead of Lagos morning traffic and gets most of the journey done in daylight. Groups that leave mid-morning or later often find themselves navigating the Lokoja stretch after dark, which is worth avoiding where possible.
A 10+ hour trip needs breaks. Rest stops are usually built in around Ilorin or Lokoja — good points to stretch, eat, and use facilities before continuing. If your group has specific needs (children, elderly travellers, dietary stops), it's worth flagging this when booking so the driver can plan the stops accordingly.
Groups travelling for a single event — a wedding, conference, or short meeting — often need the bus to either wait in Abuja or return on a set date. Both are possible, but it's far easier to arrange this upfront than to change plans once the group has already left Lagos. Confirm the return itinerary when requesting a quote, not after arrival.
A Coaster handles luggage comfortably for a full group over this distance, but it's still worth agreeing on a rough baggage allowance per passenger ahead of time — particularly for events where guests may be bringing formal wear, equipment, or gifts. This avoids last-minute repacking at the pickup point.
The trip itself is straightforward. What makes it smooth is agreeing on timing, stops and return plans before the morning of departure.
Pickup can be arranged from anywhere in Lagos, but for group trips it's worth confirming the exact pickup point and time with everyone the evening before — especially for early departures, where a late arrival at the pickup point can push the whole group's schedule back.
