Vehicle condition

• Roadworthiness — tyres, brakes and general maintenance should be current, not just the vehicle looking clean on the outside.
• Working AC and seating — especially for multi-hour or outstation trips, confirm these before the day rather than assuming.
• Vehicle age and service history — a reasonable operator should be able to tell you this without hesitation.

Driver vetting

Ask whether the driver holds the correct commercial licence class for a passenger vehicle of that size, how long they've driven for the operator, and whether they're familiar with your specific route — particularly for outstation trips like Lagos to Abuja or border crossings like Lagos to Cotonou.

Insurance
