Guide
The Lagos–Benin route is a full day on the road — here's what to plan for so the trip is comfortable rather than just long.
A road trip from Lagos to Benin City covers roughly 320km, mostly along the Benin–Ore expressway, and takes a full day either way. Whether it's a family trip, a work delegation, or a group heading to an event, the trip is far more comfortable with a bit of planning than without it.
Drive time typically runs between 5 and 7 hours depending on traffic out of Lagos and conditions along the expressway. Starting early — ideally before the morning rush — makes the biggest difference to overall trip time, since exiting Lagos is usually the slowest stretch of the whole journey.
An early departure does more for the trip than almost anything else — it avoids the worst of Lagos traffic before the expressway even starts.
